Emmit McHenry has a track record of success in both private and public organization at all levels of senior management. A technologist and visionary, Mr. McHenry is a leading innovator and champion of thought leadership with a broad network of industry executives and a deep understanding of core business principles. He currently serves as founder and Chairman of Archura, a government focused telecom services company. Mr. McHenry supports the Interprise team with strategic insight and vision as an advisory board member.
In 1979, Mr. McHenry founded Network Solutions as an engineering company. On Dec. 31 1992, Network Solutions won a contract with The National Science Foundation to manage domain name registration services for the Internet. Through this contract, Network Solution had the sole authority to develop and issue internet protocols for web addresses, which lead to the development of .com, .net, .edu, and .gov to communicate on the Internet. In 1995, Mr. McHenry sold Network Solutions to SAIC and joined the company as Senior VP and CEO of SAIC Network Solutions. At SAIC, Mr. McHenry was able to negotiate a more profitable contract with the National Science Foundation. He then led the sale of SAIC Network Solutions to VeriSign for $21 billion a year later.
Following the transaction, Mr. McHenry founded NetCom Solutions International, Inc., a telecommunications, engineering, consulting, and technical services company. The company has received awards for excellent service from IBM, NASA and Lucent Technologies with revenues of $260 million and over 200 employees in Chantilly, Virginia and Oklahoma City.
Over his career, Mr. McHenry held various management positions with IBM, Connecticut General, Union Mutual and AllState Insurance Company. He served on several insurance industry committees and was a founding member of the American Productivity Management Association.
Mr. McHenry was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, the grandson of a minister. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, McHenry attended Stewart Elementary School, Carver Middle School and Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating in 1962, he went on to receive his B.S. in communications from the University of Denver in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of lieutenant. Mr. McHenry then attended Northwestern University, where in 1979 he earned his M.S. degree in communications and completed the qualifying examinations for a Ph.D.
Today, Mr. McHenry serves as a board or advisory member of several organizations, including VisuTel, the Council on Competitiveness, NetCom Solutions International, Ltd. (UK), DECIS Technology, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, the State of Virginia Economic Development Authority and the governance committee for the Phelps Stokes Fund. He is former chairman of the board of LearnCity, Inc. and also served on the board of directors for James Martin Government Intelligence.
